Casa Colonial
Vacation Guidelines

What to expect

The first thing is to have fun and enjoy!  Casa Colonial has been designed and furnished with high quality amenities for our guests enjoyment and comfort.  We expect that our guests take care of it as they would their own home.

Guidelines and things to be aware of:

Please do not leave food out. Please put all food in the refrigerator. The house is fumigated regularly for  bugs however leaving things out invites the little critters. Before going to bed please rinse out the dishes and pour out the half full beer bottles or glasses. Also, do not leave food outside on the terrace or pool area. This problem is for all homes in the tropics!!
The is coffee and tea available for use during your stay.  Coffee and coffee filters are in the kitchen. Please be careful to fully close the top of the coffee pot (its snaps shut) or coffee will go all over the floor.
Please DO NOT sit on the furniture with wet bathing suits or sun tan lotion on.
We ask that when smoking that you use ashtrays and not throw cigarette butts on the patio, beach or front yard.
Please feel free to use the items in the cabinets above the stove - seasoning, sugar, oil etc. Want you finish replace for the next guy. When you buy crackers, flour, cookies etc. put it in plastic bags or keep it in the refrigerator because of the humidity.
You will see the Mexican Army often coming down the beach either on foot or by vehicle beach. You will also see Army helicopters flying very low. The Mexican Army surveys all the beaches from Cancun to Tulum. We think it is a good thing and it keeps strangers from coming to the beach.
Do Not Reprogram the Remotes or disconnect cables for  VCR or the TV. There will be a $200 fine for doing this.
The phone is for your use and you can call anywhere.  Long distance calls to the U.S. and Canada are free other areas are toll calls (including mexico )
The Housekeeper lives in the staff quarters.  She will clean  biweekly either in the mornings or early afternoon, whichever is your preference or will try to clean the house when you are out sightseeing or on the beach or at the pool.  The housekeeper will change the sheets on the beds mid week and provide fresh towels twice a week. Please take only the Beach towels to the pool and beach, not the bath towels.
The watchman/groundskeeper  lives on-site in the casita.  His duties are to assist with your luggage, maintenance of the villa and beach and make sure no one enters the property uninvited.  He will clean up the beach/pool area in the evenings. Should you have any maintenance problems with the villa such as a light bulb going out let him know and he will take care of it.
The staff will work very hard to ensure you enjoy your stay the fullest. If you need anything just ask. It is customary but not necessary to leave a tip for the staff upon your departure if you are pleased with their work. It you do so a tip should be given directly to the person if possible.
Very Important!!! Be sure and close all windows if you are going to be away from the villa, especially the windows and doors facing the beach. Brief rain showers have been known to occur here from out of no where. Otherwise, you could be returning to a soaked bed and etc.
The A/C and electricity is very expensive here. Please turn off the A/C when you leave the room.  The villa has very large units and they cool very fast. Most guests find that because of the sea breeze, the A/C is not even needed or wanted except in certain times.
The water used for washing is potable water that is trucked in and stored in the cistern. It is drinkable but we advise using the bottled water which is provided in the bathrooms and  kitchen for drinking and brushing teeth.  The villa also has a well which provides water for gardening and outside cleaning.  The pool has its own filtration system with a very advanced system the cleans water to microscopic levels and completely filters the pool 2 times in 4 hours.
Additional services such as meal preparation and laundry services can be arranged with the Property Manager.  The availability of these services are dependent on staff availability.
Casa Colonial is very safe. We have an on-site Watchman, it is lighted at night and we have security measures to keep it that way.    During the day people are walking down the beach so having a little common sense in securing valuables makes good sense.
The new highway has made it much, much, much more safer for driving in the Riviera Maya. We also have ¬Green Angels¬ which are service vehicles that are constantly cruising up and down the highway searching for stranded tourists with car problems. Plus, not to mention a lot less time to travel to Tulum Ruins (1 hr.) and other sites of great interest.
Playa del Carmen, which is 20 minutes away is now the #1 Tourist Destination of Mexico. But with this fame has come a little more undesirables. Playa del Carmen is still very safe, probably more so than any tourist town in the United States, but it is always good to play it smart and therefore safe.
The villa is not stocked with a selection of CDs so you may want to consider bringing your own favorite music!
Our beautiful pool is a very nice place to spend your time.  Please, only use plastic glasses around the pool area. Please pour beer into plastic glasses.
In the kitchen are plenty of paper plates for your convenience.  We encourage you to use them.

Again, the main agenda is to have fun and enjoy Casa Colonial and the Mayan Riviera. There is a lot to see and do or simply do nothing and relax.
